So many Marias in the world.… In Sommacolonia this year we had the Processione for Santa Maria del Carmine. It happens every three years and one of my oldest friends from San Francisco has participated every year, except when she was in labour. As we walk behind the statue around the 'bounds' of the village, with the sun setting over the mountains leaving a faint pink glow in the evening, we share in this communal festivity, whatever our beliefs...
